How it works
Google doesn't cut titles at a fixed number of characters. It cuts them by width, at about 600 pixels on desktop. A title full of wide letters like W and M runs out of room sooner than one full of i's and l's. This tool measures your text in the same font Google uses and trims it the same way.
Google also rewrites titles and descriptions when it thinks a different line matches the search better. A clear, specific title that matches what the page is about makes that less likely.
Quick rules that hold up
- Put the main thing first: the service and the town, then your brand.
- Write the description for a person deciding whether to click, and end with a next step.
- Give every page its own title. Duplicates confuse Google and your visitors.
